Pacific Table

Today, we checked off the first place on our Brunch Bucket List.  We went to Pacific Table and it was a great start to our bucket list.  I got the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes with powdered sugar and fresh berries.  I also got a side of bacon because, well, bacon.  Husband got chilaquiles, he said they were phenomenal.  But let's talk more about my pancakes.  They tasted like my grandma's lemon cake.  And that is a very high compliment in my book.  They were sweet without being cloying, they were tart without making me pucker up.  Basically, they were the best pancakes of my life.  The bacon was also delicious, not too crispy, not too floppy, good quality, with the perfect little ends of melty fat that make me oh so happy.  We would be hard pressed to have started our brunch bucket list off any stronger.

I also had a mimosa, because what is brunch without a mimosa?  It was good, not too strong, but still with a kick.  They had other brunch cocktails and all of their other brunch items looked pretty promising.  I saw the french toast come out and it looked incredible, maybe next time.

The brunch entrees are pretty reasonable, most are about $10-14, though the range is $8-21 (the lobster omelette is the priciest of course.)  The side orders seemed a little more expensive, $5 for a side of bacon, sausage, potatoes, or fruit, but I got a side of bacon anyway because, well, bacon.  I got 4 rashers of bacon, which is more than a typical "side" of bacon means, so I felt ok about that.  Brunch cocktails, mimosas, included were $3 each and mimosas were available by the carafe for $12.

Verdict:  Delicious, would definitely do again for brunch.

Rodeo Goat & Milano's Ristorante

Today, we closed on our new house.  Our realtor took us out to lunch after we signed the paperwork.  She took us to Rodeo Goat.  I had been before with my brother and my dad, but I was more than happy to go back again.

We ordered the Cheese Fries No Surprise to share at the table.  They are delicious fries with cheese, bacon, and jalapenos.  There are a ton of fries, I actually saw a little kid eating them as his meal (not so healthy, but filling!)  I ordered the Whiskey Burger.  Now, the meat itself is really good quality and it is juicy and delicious, but then you add the toppings and you've got one amazing burger.  It is topped with Irish whiskey cheddar, candied bacon, blackberry compote, and whole-grain mustard.  Now, normally, I would see that there is blackberry compote on a burger and think that it is a little crazy, but once you try it, whoa.  If I had to guess, I would look at the list of ingredients and think that the candied bacon would be the best part of this burger.  So wrong.  It's definitely the blackberry compote.  In addition to really delicious meat and toppings, the buns they use are really delicious too.  They are just a little bit sweet and a lot a bit amazing.  All the burgers also come with a few slices of homemade pickles that are pretty darn tasty (I'm a sucker for a good pickle.)

Rodeo Goat has an industrial warehouse feel to it.  It is definitely a casual atmosphere, though lunchtime draws a number of businessmen.  There are some smaller tables, while others are long and set up for about 10 people or so.  The appetizers are large enough to share with 3-4 people and cost $6.50-8.50.  The burgers cost $8.50-10.75 and come alone, with no sides.  Sides are available for an additional cost of $2-3.50.  They offer a full bar, with a large variety of beer options and happy hour complete with beer buckets.

Verdict:  It is a great place to go with friends to share appetizers, have a great burger and some beer.

We were able to get our keys and ran a bunch of errands all afternoon.  Dinnertime came and went and we finally realized that we had not yet eaten at around 8 pm.  We did some quick research and found a little Italian restaurant by our house, Milano's Ristorante.

We were hoping to find a good spot, close to the house that could be "our place" and we may have found it in Milano's.  They bring fresh rolls to the table that is warm and delicious.  We ordered a couple of house salads with the house dressing, a tomato vinaigrette.  I'd never had tomato vinaigrette before and I'm not sure that it is my thing.  However, it wasn't bad, very tangy.  I just might go for a standard Italian dressing though next time.

I ordered angel hair pasta with marinara, mushrooms, and meatballs.  The meatballs were the size of golf balls at least, if not larger, and I got two of them.  Not only that, they were also delicious.  They were juicy, flavorful, and just overall incredible.  My entire meal was warm, comforting, satisfying, everything that I look for in a nice plate of pasta.  There was also so much of it, that even after I ate my fill, it looked like I'd hardly touched it.  My husband got the chicken parmigiana, which is the first thing he always tries at any new Italian place, and he said it was delicious.

When we got done eating, one of the guys from the kitchen came out with those cool foil to go boxes that are the best for heating up leftover pasta.  He asked if I would like extra sauce to go with my leftovers (of course!) and brought it back with extra sauce AND and an extra meatball!  Talk about winning over a new customer.

Milano's Ristorante has dimmed lighting for a romantic, cozy feel while still being laid back.  They offer the staples that you expect to see at an Italian restaurant: pizza, pasta, and subs.  Appetizers cost $2.25-7.50.  There are a variety of entrees that are affordable and cost $8-18.   They also offer some dessert options that cost $4-5.  There are daily lunch specials and they have a decent sized wine list with offerings by the glass and by the bottle.

Verdict:  Great for a date night.

Introduction

My husband affectionately calls me Shorty, because I am short.  He also suggested that I keep a blog to keep track of all the places that we eat and go in Fort Worth (Cowtown) now that we live here.  He also suggested the title.

Fortunately for us, Fort Worth Magazine published an article in February about the 20 Top Brunch Places in Fort Worth.  We decided that we would make this list our bucket list once we moved into our house in March.  In addition to chronicling those restaurants and what we ate there, I will also keep track of the other places that we go and our impressions of those places.

As of tomorrow, March 11, we will be official Fort Worth residents and I will begin my journey through Fort Worth.  I'm excited and look forward to finding some new favorite places in my new city!
